Summer as a nursing student
Our group has 4 duties and 1 intensive immersion. So, total of 5 duties (6 weeks because the immersion is 10 days). We had our pastoral care lecture and our chn workshop in the two weeks before duty started.
The pastoral care thing is about spiritual care. I guess it is important and necessary when we care for patients so that they'll be holistically healthy, but do the requirements have to be so gruelling? (It's really not, the difficult part is choosing patients to do pastoral care on and approaching them for it) Our duty next week is PGH OR. Good luck in finding pastoral care patients. They'll be groggy or in pain when we get to them. Haaay.
So, going back. We have 4 duties. I'm assigned to have my clinical experience in PCMC 1B (Surgery Ward), PGH OR, CSMC/MDH ICU, and EAMC 5 North. My intensive immersion is in Nueva Ecija. Hurray. (Note the sarcasm)
According to those people who've already been there, it's stifling hot, the water's scarce, the room is small, there's no refrigerator. Big problems for me. haha. especially the heat and the water thing. But I hope, it'll be alright.
I'm through in my rotation at PCMC. I liked it there. Even if the kids' IV lines drove me mad. Ang kukulit nila. Gusto ko sila itali. Hahaha. I really liked our CI there, Ms. Varona. Naalala ko nung first day, pinag-uusapan namin na strict daw siya and nung nakita ko na siya sa mind ko.. "Uh-oh, scary." pero hindi pala. Super okay. She's nice and doesn't hassle the students. I learned a lot from that area. I learned how to perform HGT in a 1-month old baby, TPN, anal transposition, imperforated anus, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), etc. There were many schools who had their duty there. We shared our ward with one school but we were assigned to the surgery ward while they were assigned to the subspecialty ward (nephro, onco, etc). When there were treatments done in their treatment room, the head nurse Sir Dennis who was also a Paulinian calls us so we get to observe. We saw intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow aspiration performed. I felt after some time that we were stealing the other school's treatment room. They were assigned there and we had a better view. Nakakahiya. Pero ok lang. Ako lang ata nakafeel nun. Whatever.
What I also liked about our CI is that she shows us our evaluation. Isang CI lang ata in the past gumawa nun sakin. I think it's necessary because we learn from that, right? Yung sabi niya sakin Be assertive which peculiarly is also what Ms. Guiuan told me before (back in 2nd year when she showed me my evaluation for Vigil House). Dun talaga ko nahihirapan. Mahiyain ako e.
Pero ok yung positive na sinulat ni Ms. Varona. Compassion for patients, makes sure things are done correctly, etc. :D Very inspiring, kaya sana yung ibang CI ganun na rin no?My other plans this summer is to reread the Harry Potter books. I started with the 7th since I don't rememeber if I reread it already. Then I'll do it chronoligically.
HP 1 /
HP 2 /
HP 3 -Mom's reading it so I'll wait till next week. I have to study anyways.
HP 4
HP 5
HP 6
HP 7 /
Since I've been reading this. I realized that Dumbledore is really brilliant. Makikita mo na sa first 2 books e. J.K. Rowling's such a great author. Natatago niya yung little important details that would show in the next books. Ingenious, really. Yung mga twists. Kaya excited na ko for book 3. :D I wish I had this passion for nursing and the books for that haha.
Balak ko din matapos yung dalawang books na inumpisahan ko pero di ko tinapos. Namely, Wicked and Anne Frank. Sana no...
But I have to set my priorities and study so that'll take a back seat for now
Yung kwentuhan (chismisan), tawanan, messages foe each other, etc.
